Vote for My Top at Made by Rae

You may have heard about this little contest going on over at Made by Rae. It's a spring top competition and I entered two tops at the very last second last week and one of them got chosen for the reader vote! Amazing!
So, if you love me, vote for me :)

Here's the top that's in the running

It's a floral print, Swiss dot cotton fabric. The pattern was made from a top that I have already that I really like. I didn't do the best job replicating the original shirt, but I really like how it turned out and it's nice and light, perfect for spring and summer. I'm wearing it on my errands today in honor of the contest :)

This is the other shirt that I entered

It's an embroidered white cotton fabric, again the pattern was made from another top I have that I like. The collar on this one gave me trouble, but I like how it turned out.

Thanks for taking a look and I hope you'll take a moment to

Crafty Sewing Mamas' Blog Challenge #11 part 2

Whipped up this little zippy wallet as project number two in the CSM Blog Challenge 11.

I intended to make it as a giveaway prize but it ended up so small, I feel like it's hardly worth it!
It's cute and little and holds a few necessities but I can't quite fit a card in the main body of it.

Fortunately, I can fit all the cards I need in the front pocket. I'm thinking this would be great to toss in to my gathered clutch which I usually have in my diaper bag. But this little wallet isn't quite enough on it's own for a trip to the store...maybe for one of those "drop me off at the entrance, I'll grab the milk and bread, you keep driving around the parking lot to keep the baby asleep and I'll meet you back here in 5 minutes" type of trips.

So, while this little wallet is cute and does serves a purpose, I like something that can hold my keys, phone, and money stuff (such as the aforementioned gathered clutch).

Crafty Sewing Mamas' Blog Challenge #11

The challenge projects for this round were a nursing cover or a wallet. I intended to make both but so far I've only completed the nursing cover. I hope to get wallet done before the deadline on the 15th but I'm not holding my breath! :)

Here is the nursing cover (and coordinating burp cloth) I made for a friend who is due with a baby boy in July.

I wanted the cover to be feminine but not super girly. After I made this I realized that a very popular brand of nursing covers come in this very print. It's kind of weird to buy fabric at Joann's and then see it in a commercially produced item. Oh well.

I added a terry cloth pocket to wipe up those little milk dribbles and store some necessities like a pacifier and nursing pads (is it weird that typing that sentence made me miss needing something like this? Something to wipe up little milk dribbles and store nursing pads? It's okay, you can say it's weird).

I also made a few other things for her shower gift but I think her favorite were these little tie onesies.

When/if we have any boys, they will have a dozen of these in every size. I love them! They are so cute. Since a few months after we got married, my husband has had a job where he has to wear a tie every day so I like the idea of our little boys wearing ties too :)

Current Food Kick

Ever get on a particular food kick? Like you rediscover how good peanut butter on celery is? Or you find a new love for yogurt with granola? Or maybe chocolate milk and grilled cheese becomes your daily fare?

Okay, maybe it's just me that gets in to these weird trends of loving certain foods. When I was pregnant I loved kid food. Chocolate milk, grilled cheese sandwiches, apple sauce, carrot sticks, and apple slices were among my favorites. One of my husband's friends who came to visit quite often during my pregnancy (conveniently at dinner time), always brought a quart of chocolate milk when he "just happened to be in the neighborhood".

A few years back, I got on a cinnamon and sugar kick. I had cinnamon toast all the time and cinnamon and sugar chips were made almost every night after dinner. Then I got a great recipe for granola and that started my yogurt and granola phase.

Right now I am on a "lemon cream sauce over pasta" phase. It all started with this fabulous chicken piccata recipe from The Pioneer Woman.

Doesn't that look fabulous? Well, it is. You should have it for dinner tonight.

Then I found a recipe in the May issue of Real Simple for creamy ravioli with squash, lemon, and chives. It is wonderful too.

Creamy Ravioli With Squash, Lemon, and Chives

We had this the other night and it was so good! There's something about lemon and pasta that screams summer to me. Maybe it's that I love pasta but it can seem heavy when it's hot outside, but when you add some lemon zest, it seems to lighten it right up! It's so good and this is my current food kick. Pasta with lemon. I've branched out from these exact recipes, tweaking things and trying different pastas and add ins and stuff. So good. Try one of these soon and let me know what you think.

Also, I have a confession. I fear change and I fear different kinds of food. I fear food combinations that I've never had and lemon did not sound like a good match for pasta, but I LOVE it. So, give it a try, you'll probably love it too :)

A Pink Bow Tie

So I was hosting the Crafty Sewing Mamas Blog Challenge this time around and totally flaked on adding my own project! Sometimes life just gets crazy and the extra things you do get pushed aside. Well, I wanted to add my bow tie to the blog hop before it closes today!

I made this bow tie for a customer for her son to wear for Easter. I really love that it's pink! It was sort of a rush order and I'm so glad it made it in time for him to wear on Easter Sunday, I'm sure it was adorable! I had Elora model it so I could see how it would look on a toddler. It kind of makes her look like a boy.
